Who do you think?
Barcelona, Dallas Cowboys, Manchester United?
Name a sport, any sport; name a team, any team and this team will show you a better record.
The most successful team in the world in any sport is the All Blacks, New Zealand’s Rugby Union team.
With a population of a shade under 4.5 million, this beautiful country is Rugby mad!
Since their first international match in 1903 which they won against Australia in Sydney by 22-3, the All Blacks have won 77% of their matches. Between April 1995 and today, that figure is 83.5%.
The Rugby World Cup is the third biggest sports event in the world after the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup, with just under 2.5 million tickets sold (FIFA World Cup 3.4 million). The next World Cup is in Japan in 2018. The All Blacks have won it more times than any other country.
Before every international match, the All Blacks perform the Haka, a traditional ancient posture dance. The ritual used to be performed by the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand, just before warriors headed to battle.
Below is a video of three versions of the All Blacks performing the Haka; all the players partake whether they are Pakeha(white), Maori or Pacific islanders to unite and prepare them for the challenge ahead.
The video below is a tribute to Jonah Lomu, one of the greatest ever All Blacks who passed away aged just 40. If you are unfamiliar with Rugby Union, this will give you an insight into this fantastic sport. If you know Rugby Union, you will never tire of seeing this true champion in full flight, belying the sincere humility of the man.
